Get Rid Of a Bloated Stomach in 24 hours!

Have a big event that you want an especially flat belly for? Try this one-day pooch-deflating plan from registered dietitian Ashley Koff so you can look your sleekest. Note: This isn’t meant to be a days- or weeks-long diet, so stick to it for 24 hours—tops!

9 p.m. the Night Before

Sip a cup of warm water with 2 tbsp. Natural Calm magnesium supplement powder (magnesium citrate) mixed in. You can also try mixing Natural Calm with an herbal tea like chamomile, ginger, ennel and basil teas. This will get your digestive system moving and help clear out anything that might be backing you up—and pooching you out. Besides, it is also good if you swallow a couple of peppermint oil capsules. This is because Peppermint is an anti-spasmodic relaxant that instantly provides relief to your digestive system. (If you tend to get bloated and gassy a lot in general, a mug of this stuff at night may help. You may also want to see your doctor or a gastroenterologist to rule out.)

7:00 a.m.

Get moving even before you get out of bed with stretches that will relax your belly and keep your digestive system on track. Koff recommends bending both knees into your stomach and holding them there for a few seconds. Then, keeping your knees together, twist your legs from side to side.

And you can also get rid of the trapped air by lying on the floor and having the knees raised up to your chest. And it is advised to try this slowly with one knee at a time. Various yoga exercises can also be helpful in home treatment for bloating.

7:30 a.m.

Sip an 8 oz. glass of water with half of a lemon squeezed into it. Water fights constipation and flushes excess bloat-inducing sodium out of your body, and lemon acts as a natural digestive aid and diuretic. Make sure you continue to drink water throughout the day. Aim for half of your body weight in ounces; for example, if you weigh 150 lbs., drink around 75 oz. of water. Just don’t sip through a straw—doing so can increase the air in your stomach, causing it to pooch out a bit.

8:00 a.m. Breakfast

Have a protein-rich smoothie. A liquid breakfast will be easier on your digestive system, and your goal today is to be as easy on your insides as possible since stress and delays in your intestines and stomach show up as pooch and bloat in your belly. Consider including pineapple or papaya, which both have digestive enzymes that aid in digestion. To make sure you’re getting enough protein, Ashley recommend 6 grams at each meal—try blending in soy milk or a handful of hemp seeds. Raw cacao powder, a natural metabolism booster, is also a great addition.

10:00 a.m. Mid-Morning Snack

Have some Greek yogurt with berries for a mid-morning snack. The protein in Greek yogurt will keep you feeling satisfied, while the probiotics give your digestive system a boost. Berries are a low-calorie way to get an extra dose of gentle fiber. Or, try eating a mixture of husk and yogurt will move out the air inside your stomach, and also flush out any indigestible substances
.

12:00 p.m. Lunch

Pass on your usual sandwich or crispy, raw salad and opt for a grilled veggie salad. Cooked vegetables are much easier to digest than raw ones. Or, go with a turkey or veggie burger minus the bun with steamed veggies on the side. (Just avoid possible gas-inducing ones like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts.)

2:00 p.m. Afternoon Snack

When you energy starts to dip in the afternoon, try a kombucha shot (energy drink) and a handful of almonds instead of your usual coffee or energy drink. The almonds will satisfy your hunger and kombucha contains enzymes and probiotics that provide the body with a natural energy boost.

4:00 p.m. Pre-Event Snack

Before heading out to your event, eat a bowl of pureed vegetable soup to prevent yourself from becoming overly hungry and possibly overeating later. (Ideally, you should also sprinkle in some hemp seeds for a little protein, says Koff.) Soup is easy to digest, and its high water content will keep your system moving and leave you feeling satisfied. Make sure to stay away from regular canned soups, which contain too much bloat-inducing salt.

6:00 p.m.

To maintain your slimmer silhouette all night long, avoid bubbly beverages at your event, eat slowly, and avoid super-fatty foods
